It's oddly comforting to know that omnipotent tech giants (and their bazillion-dollar valuations), can still be at a loss for new ideas from time to time. Take for instance, these three video-conferencing apps:

As we all know by now, the spread of COVID-19 accelerated the proliferation of these services (plus a few others) among the general public in 2020. And overall, that's been a good thing. Many people who would otherwise have no interest in learning to use this type of technology, were forced to do so in order to stay in touch with their families, do their jobs, etc.
Apple's FaceTime was the first to debut (way back in 2010). And when it was time for Zoom and Google Meet (formerly Google Hangouts) to follow suit, they were apparently up against some type of time-crunch when it came to designing a logo. Because by the looks of it, it's as though they simply took FaceTime's icon, threw some different colors and angles on it, and handed in their assignment before the teacher docked them a letter grade for late homework.

Hey, I realize FaceTime's icon, though effective, isn't anything all that groundbreaking. Take an outline of an old-school video camera, give it the reverse-silhouette treatment, and Voila! – we're off to the races.
But Zoom and Google: At least make it look like you're trying to create your own logo, will ya? We've got unspoken rules to uphold here when it comes to paying homage to something versus flat-out stealing it 😂!
Who do they think they are? Vanilla Ice?
